The capital of WEED काठमाडौँ

Nepal was the capital for weed in late 70’s. Cannabis was legal up until the 1970’s.There were legit hashish shops everywhere, mostly in Kathmandu. In 1973 Ganja was officially forbidden after receiving direct commands from the U.S. government. After getting mandates, authorities began cracking down on distributors, growers and shops which caused 70% loss in Kathmandu’s business.Kathmandu was the dream travel for Hippies.Nepal was also listed in the 1st position for Hippies travel destination.

Despite the harm that cannabis could bring it also has some merits and religious values. Dreadlocked sadhus  used cannabis to gain spiritual liveliness.Even if sadhus were not the concern of local police, they would get arrested if any individual have a large quantity of hashish .

  Hippies paradise(Freak Street,Basantapur)

For the reason that eminence cannabis were available at ridiculous cheap price, the flow of tourists and Hippies from worldwide were escalating in haste. Who in the world would not want to smoke pure and unpolluted cannabis in low price. This was the main reason Freak street of basantapur was regarded as the paradise for hippies.Legendary Freak street wast the epicenter for all the hippies in 1960.Freak Street was a hippie nirvana, since marijuana and hashish were legal and sold openly in government licensed shops.Thousands of hippies travelled Kathmandu to live the free life of love, drugs and spiritualism, singing songs of universal love and peace.Songs reminds me of some raggie legends who have visited Nepal in the search of purple haze and fresh  hashish. Legends like Jimi Hendrix and Bob marly came to nepal in search of purple haze and quality cannabis.

It is belived that the king of raggie Jimi Hendrix wrote the above line when he was visiting Muktinath, Jomsom in search of cannabis.
"If I dont see you in this world I'll see you in the next one dont be late"
In this statement hendrix refers you to purple haze, the purple myth which is belived was in the verge of extinction.Just like Hendrix, Bob Marly also visited nepal and wrote few songs here.He stayed at a hotel which is now rewnoned as Hotel Bob Marly.
